Description of Practice

Negotiating can be a chore or it can be a fun challenge. Frankly, as an advocate, I absolutely enjoy negotiating and mediating cases. Over the years, I have realized that having the right mediator can make all the difference. Whereas most attorneys went to law school because they were not the best at math or science (or their parents would have likely pushed them to be doctors instead), I am at my best when the cases are technical financially because I have a background in tax and finance.

Professional Background

Having handled and mediated thousands of cases as an advocate for workers' compensation plaintiffs, I realized that negotiating and mediating were my favorite parts of the job so I decided to get certified in 2017 to mediate civil cases.

Experience

Thousands of cases mediated as an advocate; just beginning work as a mediator.

Degrees

1992 B.B.A. (Bachelor of Business Administration) from the University of Miami Herbert Business School; 1995 J.D. (Juris doctorate, law degree) from the University of Florida Levin College of Law; 1996 L.L.M. in Taxation (Master of Laws) from the University of Florida Graduate School

Approach

Most of the time, mediations involve professionals on both sides, whether they are attorneys or insurance adjusters and the like. They know the score and they mediate constantly. Yet so often in mediation, the actual decision makers are lost in a system they don't understand, are often afraid of, and sometimes have not been the beneficiary of adequate advice or preparation. Some of those issues cannot be resolved by a mediator without overstepping boundaries but it is important to get through nonetheless to the "non-professionals" if a resolution is to be reached that they are comfortable with.

Fees

Typically we charge $250/hour but prices do vary by distance, mediation location and number of hours booked.
