Description of Practice

In 1980 I became licensed to practice law in California and since then I have handled almost every type of civil case. In 2007 I was certified by the California Court of Appeal, Third Appellate District to mediate cases before the Court. I've participated in hundreds of meditations and settlement conferences as a practicing attorney. I hold the highest AV rating from the preeminent attorney rating service of Martindale-Hubbell, and am designated a "Super Lawyer" in the area of civil appeals and listed in Sacramento Magazine as a Top Lawyer. I have obtained about 50 published decisions as an appellate lawyer. In 2007 I became licensed to practice law in Texas and in 2019 I completed extensive mediation training at the University of Texas, Center for Public Policy Dispute Resolution. My career started as the Chambers Attorney for a Justice of the Court of Appeal, where I developed the skill of focusing on the unique facts and law of a particular matter, and understanding the issues from all perspectives. That skill, combined with an ability to "look outside the box" lends itself well to identifying and solving key points of contention to help disputing parties find a path to fair and final resolution. Typically, the disputing parties see that I care about and understand their concerns. I create an environment in which they find it easier to let me help them solve their dispute. I gain great satisfaction from getting a dispute solved.

Having served as an attorney for an appellate court justice and then as an appellate advocate in private practice, I developed the skill of quickly understanding the intricacies of the facts and laws in dispute from all perspectives. The parties in mediation typically realize I understand their concerns and issues which helps bring about their "buy-in" to the process allows me to find a path to a fair resolution.
